Everyday Overdraft Protection FAQs

Q.   How does this affect me?

A.    After August 15, 2010 all consumers must opt-in to our standard overdraft protection to have their one-time debit card withdrawals and ATM transactions covered. 

Q.   What if I do not opt-in?

A.    If you do not opt-in, you will automatically be considered as opting out and if you attempt to make a debit card purchase or ATM transaction and there are not sufficient funds in your account, your transaction will be declined. 

Q.   What if I change my mind?

A.    If you have chosen to opt-in or opt-out and change your mind, you can contact Flushing Bank to change your preference. 

Q.   What are the fees for this service?

A.   There is no charge for this service, however you will incur a fee of $35.00 each time we cover an overdraft transaction. 

Q.    Is there a limit to the total fees I can be charged?

A.    There is no limit to the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account. 

Q.    Do I have to do this today?

A.    You do not have to opt-in or out today, however please note that if you do not opt in you will automatically be considered as opting out and if there are not sufficient funds in your account, your transaction will be declined. 

Q.    Once I opt-in, will my entire one-time debit card transactions be covered?

A.     No, we pay overdrafts at our discretion which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. 

Q.    If I have Flushing Bank’s overdraft Line of Credit, do I still need this service?

A.    Yes, your Line of Credit has a maximum limit, if that is reached you will need this protection. 

Q.    What about automatic debit card payments that I set up with a merchant?

A.    These are considered recurring debit card transactions and are not covered by this service. 

Q.    What transactions are covered?

A.    One-time debit card withdrawals and ATM transactions are covered. 

Q.     Is there a way I can manage my accounts to let me know account activity?

A.     If you sign up for Internet banking you can take advantage of the alert service.  The Alerts Service allows you to request and receive messages about your account(s).  You can set a reminder alert, a check cleared alert, a balance alert or a daily balance alert.  These alerts allow the Internet banking user to monitor account activity.
